Vampire Knight

vampire knight Pictures, Images and Photos

Synopsis

Yuki Cross's earliest memory is of a snowy night in winter, when she was attacked by one vampire and was saved by another, Kaname Kuran. Yuki is the adopted daughter of the Headmaster of Cross Academy, Kaien Cross, who is an ex-vampire hunter that now wishes for vampires and humans to live alongside peacefully. She has grown up and become a prefect for the school with one main purpose: for vampires to coexist peacefully with humans. Her fellow guardian, Zero Kiryu, a childhood companion whose parents were killed by a pure-blood vampire, is now determined to kill them all and refuses to trust them. Zero himself is now manifesting vampire traits, having been turned into vampire after he was bitten by a pure-blood vampire, Shizuka Hio, four years before.

Yuki tries to help him fight his bloodlust while also seeking to recover the memories she lost. As the series progresses, Zero's thirst for blood leads to his drinking from Yuki, by her consent, to avoid becoming a level E vampire. To stop this, Kaname gives Zero his own blood, making him a normal vampire which will prevent Zero from going insane and from needing to feed from Yuki. Eventually, it is revealed that Yuki is a pureblood vampire herself, the sister and fiancee of Kaname. To save Yuki from being killed by Rido Kuran, Kaname's uncle, her mother had sealed her memories shortly before her own death. After Yuki reawakens to her vampire nature, Rido again tries to kill her. As Kaname kills the vampire senate, Yuki fights Rido. During a fierce battle, Zero aids her in killing him, but later on tells her he will have to kill her one day.

Episodes: 26

Genres: Action, Advenure, Comedy, Drama, Love-Romance

Main Characters:

Yuki Cross (黒主 優姫 Kurosu Yūki?) is the adoptive daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, and a Guardian, one of the members of the school's disciplinary committee. Ten years prior to the start of the series, Yuki was rescued from a vampire attack by another vampire, Kaname. She lost all memory of her life from before the attack, and was adopted by Headmaster Cross. After Zero's vampire nature is revealed, she begins giving him her blood to drink. However, Yuki loves Kaname, who has always been protecting her and has been by her side during her childhood as a vampire. When Rido Kuran resurfaces at Cross Academy, Yuki's memories are unlocked, revealing that she is actually a pureblood vampire, both Kaname's sister and his fiancee.

Zero Kiryu (錐生 零, Kiryū Zero?), who is a year older than Yuki Cross, comes from a vampire hunter family. His parents were killed by the pureblood vampire Shizuka Hio after they were ordered to assassinate her lover, a former human that had not yet fallen to level E. Zero was taken in by the headmaster of Cross Academy and became a Prefect (Guardian), alongside Yuki Cross. He has a great hatred for vampires because of what happened to his parents, but it is later revealed that he himself is a vampire as a result of Shizuka's attack. It is also later revealed that his twin brother, Ichiru, also survived the attack and lived at Shizuka's side. After he consumes Shizuka, Kaname lets Zero drink some of his blood to keep Zero from losing control of himself in order to protect Yuki.

Kaname Kuran (玖蘭 枢 Kuran Kaname?), a pureblood vampire, saved Yuki from an attack by another vampire when she was little. He is the class president of the Night Class as well as the dorm leader, much feared and respected by the other Night Class students. While he is cold and authoritative towards his fellows in the Night Class, he is always kind and sweet to Yuki. He has shown that he cares deeply for Yuki and loves her in a romantic sense. He allows Zero to live because he knows his death would sadden Yuki as well as because Zero is useful. He is both jealous and angry of Zero for biting Yuki and endangering her life. Kaname has been raised as Yuki's older brother. At a young age they had pledged to marry each other when they grow up, just like Haruka and Juuri, who were siblings yet married to each other. It is common for pureblood siblings to marry as it is essential to keep the bloodline pure. Also, a fact yet to be revealed to Yuki is that Kaname is not her "true brother". He is actually the ancient ancestor of the Kurans, and Rido is his master who awakened him from his grave, and put the ancestor's spirit in the 'real' Kaname's body, making him unable to kill his 'master'.

Synopsis

Middle school student Miaka Yūki is under a lot of pressure to pass the entrance exam for the competitive Jonan Academy. Her friends do not believe she will get in, but she is determined to because her best friend, Yui Hongo, has applied for the same school and she wants them both to go to the school together. While at the library one day, Miaka and Yui come into contact with a strange book there, known as The Universe of the Four Gods. As a result of reading this book, they are then transported into the novel's universe. Inside the novel she discovers that she is the Priestess of Suzaku and destined to gather the seven Celestial Warriors of the god Suzaku in order to summon Suzaku and obtain three wishes. She falls in love with the Celestial Warrior Tamahome, who eventually reciprocates and Miaka's desire to use a wish to enter the high school of her choice begins to shift towards finding a way to be with Tamahome. Unfortunately, Yui, who is also drawn into the book, is quickly manipulated by the emperor of the land of Kutou into becoming the Priestess of Seiryuu and working against Miaka.

The series describes the various trials that teenagers Miaka and Yui face, both quest-driven and personal. Feeling betrayed, the two oppose one another as priestesses, bringing together their own respective warriors and vying for the chance to be granted three wishes by the gods whom they hope to summon.

Much of the story also revolves around the inability of the Universe of the Four Gods to grant the wish for Tamahome to become real. In the first OVA it is revealed that there are two major reasons why Tama cannot stay with Miaka. Even though Tamahome was made into an actual person in the real world (named Taka), the difference between the memories of the "real" Taka and Tamahome made it impossible for him to stay with her until the memories of Taka were restored and he was merged with Tamahome. In addition, Tenkou was interfering with the powers of the Universe of the Four Gods, and this wish could never be made while he existed.

The last part of the story, Eikoden, discusses a new priestess entering the Universe of the Four Gods, and seeking to undo everything Miaka and Tamahome have done together.

Episodes: 52
Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Romance
Main Characters:

Miaka Yūki

Miaka Yūki (夕城 美朱 Yūki Miaka), the primary protagonist in Fushigi Yūgi, an ordinary fifteen year old junior high school student, initially decides to become the Priestess of Suzaku (Suzaku no Miko) in order to use one of the wishes she will receive when she summons Suzaku: she plans to enter the high school of her choice and be with her friend Yui.

Miaka falls in love with Tamahome, which becomes a driving motivation for Miaka to gather the seven Celestial Warriors of Suzaku and summon the god. Though Miaka's final wish as the Priestess of Suzaku had been for her and Tamahome to remain together forever, she chooses instead to ask Suzaku to save "this world" (Miaka's world after being destroyed by the battle between Seiryuu and Suzaku) and restore it to the way it was. Her warriors are shocked and even comment on how "so completely selfless" it is. Tamahome is then forced to return to his own world because of it.

Outgoing and optimistic, Miaka shows herself amiable with friends and strangers, and has a tendency to be guileless and sentimental. She is naïve, but sometimes surprises adults with an insightful comment. Miaka is generous and cares greatly for other people and perceives herself to be a considerate person. She can be unassuming and unsophisticated, but also magnanimous and courageous. Because she creates the impression of a person who always needs help, Miaka has the good fortune of almost always having someone looking after her.

Miaka has a primary weakness: her gluttony. She eats constantly and has an interest in any type of food. She is an avid fan of anime, imitating several characters during the course of the story

Tamahome

Tamahome (鬼宿), the first of the seven Celestial Warriors of Suzaku whom Miaka meets, comes into the story when he saves Miaka and Yui from slave-traders. Born in the Hokkan (Bei-Jiang) Village of the Juusou (Shou-Shuang) Prefecture of Kounan (Hong-nan) as the eldest son of a large family, he is seventeen years old. His true name is Kishuku Sou (琮 鬼宿, Sō Kishuku?) , based on the star Demon (鬼).

Tamahome appears the strongest member of the Suzaku warriors. An adept martial artist, proficient unarmed and with weapons, he proves a good street-fighter and can channel his ki into energy-blasts. When emotionally motivated, he is able to use his ki to increase his strength, speed, and reflexes in combat. Tamahome is also experienced in fencing thanks to being trained by Tokaki.

Initially, the story portrays Tamahome as a greedy young man, interested in helping others only if it means getting paid for it later. It is eventually revealed that his interest in accumulating money derives from trying to support his family. He comes across as cheerful, vain, and comic, but is actually shy and emotionally strong. Throughout the series, he demonstrates himself to be a sincere young man who is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others and unwilling to back down from enemies.

While he initially rejects Miaka's feelings for him, he comes to reciprocate, though does not pursue his feelings for her until Suboshi kills his family. They develop a strong romantic relationship to the point where Tamahome is able to hear Miaka when she calls for him. Though it is Miaka's wish for them to be together, it is a wish that Suzaku cannot grant; thus, Miaka uses her final wish to restore The Universe of Four Gods and the two are separated when Miaka returns to her own world. However, after Miaka's junior high school graduation, she is introduced to a new classmate of her older brother. Tamahome comes back showing the ring that symbolizes his marriage to Miaka.

Hotohori

Hotohori (星宿), the fourth Emperor of Kōnan, Emperor Cai Pi (彩賁帝 Saihitei?) has a reputation for his beauty and his narcissism. He is eighteen years old and was born in Eiyou (Rong-Yang), the capital city of the Konan Empire. As one of the Celestial Warriors of Suzaku, he is able to summon a sword; as such he is a powerful swordsman and has been additionally trained in martial arts since childhood. His true name is Seishuku Shu (朱 星宿, Shu Seishuku?) based on the star Brightance (星).

Hotohori first hears of the Priestess of Suzaku at a young age and comes to believe that the priestess would become his true love and the one who would love him for himself instead of his title. Upon meeting Miaka, he falls in love with her and becomes willing to do anything for her sake. As such, he becomes a rival to Tamahome for Miaka's affection, but eventually concedes when he realizes that Miaka will only ever love Tamahome. Hotohori eventually marries a woman Houki, who bears a striking resemblance to Nuriko. He is killed by Nakago during the battle between Konan and Kutō, leaving Houki pregnant with his son Boushin.

Raised with little warmth, Hotohori appears cold, reserved, and harsh, particularly when acting as the Emperor of Konan, but actually shows himself as a warm, peace-loving and gentle person. Known as a responsible ruler and capable of dealing with political affairs, Hotohori often places the well-being of his subjects first and forgets his own needs in the process. However, Hotohori has limited understanding of the world as a result of being raised in a sheltered environment. After meeting Miaka and the other Celestial Warriors of Suzaku, he is gradually able to act as himself and finds true friends.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, a young boy named Shu Eian (who often visits a local cemetery) revives Hotohori. During the assembly of the Suzaku Celestial Warriors, he returns last, despite Nuriko's threat to kill him with his sword when he doesn't come out.

Nuriko

Nuriko (柳宿) first appears disguised as "Kōrin" in Emperor Hotohori's harem, which Hotohori never visits except to welcome new maidens. "Kōrin" was in fact Nuriko's younger sister, who died at a young age; he began behaving and dressing like her to keep her memory alive. Born in Eiyō, the capital of Konan, Nuriko possesses superhuman strength and is later granted a pair of bracelets that transform into strength-increasing armbands by Taiitsukun. He is 18 years old. His true name is Ryuuen Chou (迢 柳娟, Chō Ryūen?), based on the star Willow (柳).

While prone to jealousy, quick to anger, and possessing a calculating tendency, Nuriko is very level-headed and compassionate and shows the most concern regarding Miaka and Tamahome's relationship. As a "woman", Nuriko is infatuated with his fellow warrior, Hotohori, but as a man, he also loves Miaka Yūki. While initially jealous of Hotohori's love for Miaka, Nuriko and Miaka become close friends. After Nuriko comes to terms with the fact that his cross-dressing resulted from the unyielding pain of losing his sister Kourin, he concludes that he had been trying to live his life as Kourin would have, not as he would have. This revelation allows him to finally allow himself to experience life as a man. He cuts his hair, which once hung down to his waist in a braid, and admits to Tamahome that he loves Miaka as more than a friend. While he maintains his feelings for Hotohori, Nuriko eventually chooses to stop dressing as a woman in order to better protect Miaka. Throughout the rest of the series, even after his death from Ashitare, one of the Seiryū-seishi, the friendship between Nuriko and Miaka remains strong. Nuriko is the first of the seven Suzaku warriors to die.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, Nuriko was "reborn" at a local marketplace as a young girl named Ko Reishun . She also steals the magic ball Tasuki has, and breaks it. Despite the young girl's size, she is able to lift a heavy rock much like Nuriko, revealing that she is indeed Nuriko's reincarnation.

Chichiri

Chichiri (井宿), a wandering monk, has trained for several years with Taiitsukun, the creator. A 24 year-old native of a village on the Shōryū River (near the northern Kōnan-Kutō border), he variously wields a shakujō staff, kasa hat, and kesa mantle to fight and employs various magical techniques taught by Taiitsukun, the first of which was the ability to form a barrier around himself. His true name is Houjun Ri (李 芳准 Ri Hōjun?), born under the star Well (井).

As the oldest and wisest of all of the Suzaku warriors, Chichiri thinks of himself as the older brother who looks after them all. Appearing superficially light-hearted, he can put on super deformed 'chibi' frivolity or suddenly be very serious and grim. While Tamahome and Hotohori are the obvious leaders, Chichiri is the ever-staunch advisor and supporter from behind the scenes, always willing to help when needed. Unconcerned with his own mortality or with earthly desires, he has a Zen master's detached attitude. He habitually ends many sentences with the emphatic phrase "no da", translated as "ya know" in the anime's English version (omitted in the English dub).

When he first appears, Chichiri constantly wears a smile on his face, though he later accounts for his face as a mask with features he can move on reflex in order to make it resemble a natural face. His true face resembles his mask, save that one eye has been scarred by an injury across his forehead. When he was eighteen, Chichiri had been engaged to be married; after his best friend stole a kiss from his fiancée, she called off their betrothal. Chichiri was enraged at the betrayal and the two men began to fight. While they were fighting, a heavy rainstorm caused the Shoryuu River flooded their home village. Most of the inhabitants were drowned, including Chichiri's family and his fiancee. His friend fell into the rushing water and Chichiri attempted to rescue him, but a nearby log smashed into Chichiri's eye and gouged it out, resulting in the scar on his face. Unbeknownst to Chichiri, his friend survived, but resentfully believes that Chichiri had abandoned him to die. When they meet again, this mistaken resentment causes him to resume the old battle, but ends when the story behind the dreadful scar is revealed.

At the end of the series, only he and Tasuki of all the Suzaku Celestial Warriors remain alive in "The Universe of the Four Gods".

Tasuki

Tasuki (宿?) formerly led the Mount Reikaku bandits. Extremely quick and agile, he particularly enjoys joking around with Nuriko, Tamahome, and Chichiri. He is 17 years old and was born in the town of Tai-Tou in the Ko prefecture, at the foot of Mount Reikaku. His true name is Shun'u Kou (侯 俊宇, Kō Shun'u?), born under the star Wings (翼). Tasuki's primary weapon is a flame throwing Tessen, an iron fan used for fighting which is eventually upgraded to become a diamond fan that could only be used by Tasuki by Taitsukun. Additionally, he is skilled in judo, archery, swordsmanship, and is briefly capable of using ofuda. As a Celestial Warrior, he possesses superhuman speed and known as Genrou or Huang-Lang ("Phantom Wolf") because of his wolf-like appearance.

At a young age Tasuki found his calling as a bandit when Hakurō, the chief bandit of Mount Reikaku, took him under his wing. He began to improve his martial arts abilities in hopes of living up to and carrying on the role of his mentor. He and fellow bandit Kōji eventually master the use of an iron fan in combat. Tasuki first meets Miaka when he kidnaps her in order to regain his rightful place as the leader of Mount Reikaku's bandits. He eventually joins her in order to help the other Celestial Warriors on their quest, reluctantly leaving Kōji as the leader of the bandits of Mount Reikaku.

Straight-forward, simple-minded, and quick to pick a fight, Tasuki also has a strong sense of honour. Though he appears utterly blunt, vulgar, and loud, he is sentimental and easily emotional. He is a frequent source of comic relief in the series and enjoys joking around. Tasuki values his friends greatly and will not hesitate to kill those who would try to endanger them or make fun of them in any way. Despite being rough around the edges, Tasuki shares a particularly strong relationship with Chiriko. Tasuki, as the youngest child and only son of a family with five older sisters, an aggressive mother, and timid father, happily accepts the role of an older brother figure to Chiriko, who looks up to him and strives to become a "manly man" like Tasuki. Of all the Suzaku Celestial Warriors, he takes the deaths of his comrades the hardest and openly cries for them. A running joke in the series is that Tasuki is afraid to swim, claiming that it is because he is a "man of the mountains", though on several occasions he is able to instinctively tread water and finds unusual means of compensating for his weakness.

As the youngest and only son in a family with strong females and a weak father, Tasuki claims to hate women. But he demonstrates outstanding loyalty to Miaka and would die to protect her. His feelings toward her are apparently brotherly, but it is eventually revealed that he loves her. He acts on these feelings only once, when under a spell, but unwilling to betray his friends and aware of his behaviour, he attempts to kill himself, saved only when the spell is broken.

At the end of the series, he and Chichiri remain the only living Suzaku Celestial Warriors in "The Universe of the Four Gods".

Mitsukake

Mitsukake (軫宿?) is the healer of Suzaku's warriors. He is soft-spoken and one of the most serious of the Suzaku Celestial Warriors. He is 22 years old and was born in Sōen Village, near Chōkō of northern part of Kōnan. His true name is Juan Myō (妙 寿安, Myou Juan?), born the star Chariot (軫). Mitsukake's fighting abilities are limited to his own strength, but as a Celestial Warrior, he possesses incredible healing powers at the cost of exchanging some of his own life force. He uses this ability frequently to heal minor injuries, but after healing life-threatening injuries, Mitsukake requires an entire day to regenerate his life force. His cat Tama is the unofficial mascot of the Suzaku Celestial Warriors and, after Mitsukake's death, becomes Chichiri's pet.

The son of a country doctor, he put his natural talents to work and often would help his father with his rounds. His father eventually died attempting to save villagers close to a flooding river during the same storm that claimed the lives of Chichiri's loved ones. Mitsukake shows utter devotion to healing; however after the death of Shōka, the daughter of the local nobleman who he was in love with, Mitsukake gave up medicine and dedicated all of his time and energy into finding a miracle herb that could cure any illness. It was during this reclusive stage that Miaka and the others find him, and managed to get him to join them with little persuasion. However, he continues to cherish the memory of the late Shōka.

Despite his expressionless appearance and tendency to remain silent, Mitsukake is a kind-hearted and calm man who seems aloof, but is actually shy and does not know how to be more outgoing. He is especially kind to the weak, elderly, the sickly, and children, as well as animals. During the battle between Konan and Kutō, he is severely wounded by Nakago. Mitsukake subsequently dies exhausting all his energy to save the life of a child who is later revealed to be the reincarnation of his beloved, as well as all the soldiers who had been wounded during the battle.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, he is revived as a young boy who is not convinced that he is Mitsukake and stays to protect a young girl who is also named Shōka.

Chiriko

Chiriko (宿?) is the youngest and the genius among the seven Celestial Warriors of Suzaku. Born in Jozen in western Kōnan, Chiriko is revealed to be studying for an examination to become a government official during his first appearance. Aside from his incredible intelligence, Chiriko also employs a leaf flute against his opponents. He is thirteen years old. His true name is Doukon Ou (王 道煇, Ō Dōkon?), born the star Extended Net (張).

Chiriko's intelligence actually derives from his role as a Celestial Warrior and when his character disappears, he becomes a rather average child with limited intelligence. This limitation on his powers alongside being the youngest and physically weakest in the group is a source of frustration for Chiriko. He is particularly sensitive about his height and his peculiar intelligence and strives towards becoming a "man of strength", but is otherwise a quiet and good-natured student. Since a very young age, Chiriko has held a strong interest in research and has amassed a great deal of knowledge through books and study.

Though somewhat unusual, Chiriko develops a strong relationship with Tasuki, who happily accepts the role of an older brother figure to Chiriko and is particularly devastated when Chiriko dies. The youngest Celestial Warrior's death comes when his body is possessed by Seiryū Celestial Warrior Miboshi. After regaining control of his body, Chiriko stabs himself, taking Miboshi with him to his death.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, Chiriko is revived as a child of a politician. He is the only character to remember who he is, but has to fully revive quickly or will be reborn as a normal boy.

Seiryū

Yui Hongo

Yui Hongo (本郷 唯 Hongō Yui?) is the Priestess of Seiryū (Seiryū no Miko). An intelligent and mature girl, she is a tenth grade student and Miaka Yūki's best friend. A passionate person at heart, she tends to see the world in black and white terms and is easily infuriated with perceived betrayal. Yui is confident and bold with everything she does, but longs for someone to take care of her. It is revealed in the manga that Yui cut her hair to avoid all the attention she was getting from boys.

Yui is initially transported to "The Universe of Four Gods" with Miaka, but almost immediately returns to the real world and becomes the one who reads the book in order for events in the world to progress. However, she becomes trapped in the book while trying to help Miaka return to the real world. Afterwards, bandits capture Yui and knock her unconscious. When she regains consciousness, she believes she has been raped and, distraught, attempts to kill herself. Nakago rescues her and convinces her that Miaka is responsible for Yui's misfortunes, leaving Yui unaware that Nakago had saved her before the incident involving the bandits and that she had not been raped at all. He manipulates Yui into becoming the Priestess of Seiryū, convincing her that it will allow Yui to take revenge on Miaka. She eagerly agrees, swearing to fight Miaka and to take away her lover, Tamahome, whom Yui has become attracted to.

After succeeding in summoning Seiryū, Yui uses her first wish to seal away Suzaku's powers, preventing the god from being summoned and the Celestial Warriors from using their powers. Her second wish is to take Miaka and herself back to their world, hoping to separate Miaka and Tamahome, but Tamahome also arrives in their world with them. Upon learning that Nakago had been using her all along, she has a change of heart and redeems herself by using her third and last wish to disable the seal on Suzaku, allowing Miaka to summon it, but she is absorbed by Seiryū afterwards. After summoning Suzaku, Miaka used her first wish to rescue Yui, and they became friends again.

After the events of the "Universe of the Four Gods", Yui enters a long-term relationship with Tetsuya Kajiwara, a friend of Keisuke Yūki, who fell in love with her while following her journey when reading the book.

Nakago

Nakago (宿?), considered to be the leader of the Seiryū warriors, is the main antagonist of Fushigi Yūgi. His true name is Ayuru Gi (魏 アユル, Gi Ayuru?), born under the star Heart (心). Nakago is both merciless and charismatic; he eliminates those whose usefulness to him is exhausted and skillfully manipulates others into doing as he wishes. Nakago's powers as a Celestial Warrior is shown to be stronger than any of the Suzaku and Seiryū warriors, having the ability to manipulate chi, enabling himself to become psychokinetic, fire energy blasts, and set up force fields. In battle, Nakago also utilizes a whip and sword.

As Kutō's highest ranking general, Nakago commands two thirds of Kutō's army. The last of the Hin Tribe—a people destroyed at the orders of the Emperor of Kutō—Nakago was captured after seeing his mother being raped by Kutō soldiers, triggered his powers and killed the soldiers and his own mother. With the surviving soldiers recognizing him as a Celestial Warrior, Nakago is brought to the Emperor where his natural beauty results in his being sexually abused by the Emperor. As he mastered complete control over his abilities, he eventually became a seemingly loyal soldier of Kutō, with the Emperor unaware that Nakago has been planning to betray him all his life. Once he finds Yui, he manipulates her by letting her believe she was raped so that he can become the person she depends on. He uses her to gain the power of Seiryū, originally intending to take over the world. After learning about the real world that Yui and Miaka come from, he changes his goals to take over it, desiring above all to be a God who controls everything. He uses his powers to go to the real world, where he tries to take over the world. Realizing her mistake, Yui frees Suzaku and Miaka uses her wishes to seal Seiryū, returning Nakago to normal. He is killed by Tamahome.

Yu Watase notes on several occasions in the chapter notes, as well in the second installment of the omake "The Tale of the Forbidden Women's Hot Spring" from the series 1 OVA (as stated by Nakago himself), that Nakago is her favourite character.

Amiboshi

Amiboshi (亢宿?) is a Seiryū Celestial Warrior. He is the elder twin brother of Suboshi and was born in Tenryō, San'un Province in Kutō Empire. The true name is Kōtoku Bu (武 亢德, Bu Koutoku?), born under the star Neck (亢). As a Celestial Warrior, Amiboshi is capable of emitting chi through his mouth and channel it through a flute to control the will of others. A skilled flute player, Amiboshi holds the instrument to the left when using his powers, but to the right when he is simply playing the flute. He works as a spy.

Tranquil and reserved, Amiboshi can become single-minded and merciless. Before Miaka arrives in The Universe of Four Gods, he was a kind young man who was determined to judiciously protect his younger brother. Amiboshi first appears while impersonating Chiriko at the orders of Nakago. When discovered, he falls into a river and is believed to be dead. Found by an old couple, Amiboshi pretends that he has amnesia and the couple adopt him as a son, calling him Kaika. He saves Miaka while she is searching for the Shinzahō, but he pretends that he does not recognize her. As the story progresses, he gradually becomes conflicted between aiding the Celestial Warriors of Suzaku and those of Seiryū.

To save his life, Suboshi gives Amiboshi the forgetfulness potion instead after Amiboshi nearly dies. Losing his memory forever, Amiboshi is protected from sharing the same fate as the rest of the Seiryū warriors and becomes the only surviving member the Celestial Warriors of Seiryū. When Suboshi dies by his own weapon in Miaka's world, after following Tamahome, Amiboshi claimed that he felt like a part of him had disappeared.

Suboshi

Suboshi (角宿?) is a Seiryū Celestial Warrior and the younger twin brother of Amiboshi. The true name is Shunkaku Bu (武 俊角, Bu Shunkaku?), born under the star Horn (角). As a Celestial Warrior, he is able to use a secret weapon known as the Ryūseisui, a double meteor bell, and control it with his will alone. He and his brother are also able to communicate with one another by writing messages on their bodies.

In terms of temperament, Suboshi is fierce, impulsive, and stubborn to a fault, unwilling to listen to reason once he becomes determined to do something. He and his brother are extremely close as a result of their losing their parents at a young age and having a tough childhood. Suboshi is particularly devoted to his brother and will not hesitate to kill if it means protecting Amiboshi, even killing fellow Seiryū warrior Tomo without a second thought for this reason alone.

Suboshi falls in love with Yui Hongo, who is the first person aside from his brother to show him any tenderness, when she comforts him after the apparent death of Amiboshi. As a result, he develops a strong hatred for Miaka for supposedly abandoning Yui and jealousy towards Tamahome, whom Yui loves. Believing Tamahome to be responsible for Amiboshi's death, Suboshi murders Tamahome's family for revenge.

Though he is eventually reunited with Amiboshi, Suboshi chooses to administer a potion of forgetfulness to save Amiboshi, who is near death. With his memories completely lost, Amiboshi is saved by his brother from sharing the same fate as the Seiryū warriors. Suboshi later arrives in the real world trying to kill Miaka and Tamahome, but is killed by his own weapon, vanishing shortly afterwards.

Lucky Star

M Pictures, Images and Photos

Synopsis

Lucky Star's story portrays the lives of several girls attending a Japanese high school named Ryoo with a very loose sense of humor. The setting is mainly based on the city of Kasukabe in Saitama Prefecture. The main character is Konata Izumi, an athletic and intelligent girl who, despite these attributes, is not in a sports club and has to resort to all-nighter cramming for tests. Her laziness at school is due to her love for anime and video games and lack of interest in anything else. The serialization began with the four main characters in their first year of high school.

Episodes: 24
Genre: Comedy
Main Characters:

Kanata Izumi

The very representation of an otaku, Konata (or sometimes called 'Kona-chan') is the childish but good-natured leader of the Lucky Star girls. Usually a lazy girl who is 'occupied' with video or online games, manga, anime, or all of the above. Konata is actually a capable, intelligent, and athletic girl, but does not join any school clubs because of her otaku interests.

Kagami is Tsukasa's older fraternal twin sister and is occasionally referred to as "Kagamin". In school, her grades are excellent because she studies very hard. She was even the class president in her first year. She is in a different class than Konata and Tsukasa, but she frequently comes to their class during lunch time to eat with them.

Hiiragi Tsukasa
Tsukasa is the younger fraternal twin sister of Kagami and lives in a six-member family household with her parents. She is in the same class as Konata. While she is not good at studying or sports, she excels in cooking. She is portrayed as the stereotypical friendly, good-natured but clumsy person. She is often portrayed as an airhead who is unreliable and is always compared to her twin sister, who generally does better than her in most areas. It is often implied that Tsukasa is unable to follow the gist of complex conversations.

Takara Miyuki
Miyuki is a young lady from a wealthy family who is beautiful, smart, and well-mannered. She always uses extremely polite Japanese, even when talking with her closest friends. She was the class president for her grade level in her first year, at the same time that she became good friends with Kagami. Now Miyuki is in the same class as Konata and Tsukasa. Miyuki's classmates often rely on her for help with their studies, and she is often shown giving impromptu but highly-detailed, encyclopedic definitions or explanations on diverse and obscure matters.

Green Green

GG 02 Pictures, Images and Photos

Synopsis

Kanenone Academy was an all-boys high school isolated from the world by mountains and hills. Yusuke Takasaki, the average 11th grader, led a normal life in the academy until the academy announced attempting for co-ed, and high-school girls were being transferred for the summer semester.

Episodes: 12
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Ecchi, Love-Romance
Characters:

Yuusuke Takasaki

Ordinary, nice, and maybe a little paranoid, Yuusuke is the typical male protaganist one would find in most anime. He is friends with every member of the Baka Trio, and thankfully does not share their perverted traits. For some reason, Midori seems to know Yuusuke and is heads over heels in love with him. Yuusuke has no idea who Midori is, but he still develops a crush on her. He also experiences feelings for tomboy Futaba Kutsuki, creating a love triangle.

Midori Chitose

The main female lead, Midori is an outgoing and cheerful girl who seems to know Yuusuke and is also in love with him. She seems willing to do anything for him, even filling out a form of perverted questions the Baka Trio gave her, hoping it will please Yuusuke. In the opening scene of the series, Midori narrates a tale about two people who were in love, but their love was forbidden at the time and they could not stay together. They promised each other to meet again in another life, which hints that Midori is the girl from the tale and somehow retained her memories, while Yuusuke is the boy from the tale, but he has not retained the memories of his past life.

Futaba Kutsuki

Futaba fills the role of the tough girl. She is disgusted by the Baka Trio and considers most of the boys in Kanenone to be perverts. Futaba even goes so far as to knock out and hang the Baka Trio (and Yuusuke) upside down by rope when they are caught peeping on the girls while they bathe. After the Baka Trio pulls a cruel and humiliating prank on her in retort, Futaba decides to leave Kanenone on her own that very night. She gets lost in the woods but is rescued by Yuusuke, who carries her back to Kanenone. This act sparks feelings inside her for Yuusuke, and soon Yuusuke also finds himself liking Futaba. Futaba was highly popular amongst fans, and many preferred episodes focusing on her and Yuusuke, rather than Midori and Yuusuke. Futaba was actually made the main character in the H-game's second sequel, Green Green 3.

Futaba has a younger sister, Wakaba.

Wakaba Kutsuki

Wakaba is Futaba's younger sister. She looks up to and respects Futaba, but has trouble refusing a favor if someone asks for it. The most defining trait of Wakaba is her potted cactus, whom she named Togemura. Wakaba carries Togemura everywhere with her and seems to be able to speak to it and sense when Togemura is talking to her. In fact, she uses Togemura as a weapon to defend herself and her friends in a magical girl-style.

Sanae Minami

A weak and shy girl, Sanae looks much younger than the rest of the main female characters. This has drawn the attention of Tenjin, who is attracted to "little sister" types. In fact, Tenjin wants Sanae to call him "Onii-chama", a term meaning "big brother" which merges chan and sama. Sanae, however, is scared to death of the perverted Tenjin and wants to be as far away from him as possible. Sanae has gone on the trip to Kanenone because her doctors feel that the fresh country air will be beneficial to her health.

Reika Morimura

Reika is Midori's best friend and seems to know about the connection between Midori and Yuusuke. She seems to be intent on keeping the two apart, trying to put Yuusuke and Futaba together instead. Reika's motives are explained near the end of the series.

Unlike the other characters, Reika was not in the H-game of Green Green. She was created as a totally new character for the television series.

Chigusa Iino

Chigusa is the nurse at the all-girls boarding school. She came along on the trip as the girls' supervisor. The Baka Trio, especially Bacchi-Gu, are enamored by Chigusa's beauty and her E-cup breasts. Although she is meant to keep the girls in order, Chigusa is very easy-going and actually encourages the girls to flirt with the boys.

Bacchi-Gu

The apparent leader of the Baka Trio, Bacchi-Gu is an overweight, bespectacled pervert who has no shame. The arrival of beautiful girls to Kanenone seems to send him out of control. He does things such as drinking the bath water the girls recently bathed in, to making a nipple print of his own nipples so he can imagine they belong to a girl. Bacchi-Gu is considered to be the lead comic relief of the series (although the series is mostly comedy) and is the male mascot of Green Green.

Hikaru Ichiban-Boshi

Literally translated in English as "shining number one star," Ichiban-Boshi believes himself to be a suave ladies man. He has a book of pick-up lines to use on his new female classmates, but he always fails and makes a fool of himself. He is perhaps the least perverted of the Baka Trio, but he is still a pervert nonetheless.

Tenjin

Tenjin has a very strange fetish. He dreams of having a young girl consider him a big brother, and then she will sleep next to him...while he smells her and eats rice at the same time. Sanae's young appearance makes him instantly attracted to her, but Sanae wants nothing to do with Tenjin.

Romeo X Juliet

romeojuliet Pictures, Images and Photos

Plot

In the fantastical aeropolis of Neo Verona, the noble house of Capulet had ruled peacefully for generations - until fourteen years ago, when the ancient grudge held by the rival house of Montague led to a mutiny, and the Capulets were deposed and all wiped out in a bloody coup. Now, as Neo Verona suffers under the thrall of its new masters, the fates of two star crossed lovers are about to become tragically entwined... As the citizens of the city suffer, the Capulet clan struggles to strike a blow against their enemies, and the Montagues tighten their grasp on power, an unlikely love blossoms between Romeo and Juliet - but in the face of such adversity, this ill-fated love may be doomed from the outset. Triumph or tragedy; only fate knows what awaits Romeo and Juliet...

A young girl, Juliet, is the only member of her family to escape the massacre of the Capulet family at the hands of Leontes Montague. Fourteen years later, Lord Montague rules the land of Neo-Verona with an iron-fist as Juliet helps the common folk in a Robin Hood-like fashion, and Romeo Montague protests his father's cruelty. Juliet and Romeo meet by coincidence at the Rose Ball and fall in love at first sight. However, when Juliet turns sixteen and learns the truth of her past that has been hidden from her for fourteen years, her love becomes conflicted between revolution and devotion. (Please take note that in the Shakespearean version of Romeo and Juliet that Juliet and Romeo know about the other ones family and still choose to love each other. The only conflict in the whole play is the conflict of souls in a race for power and love as Juliet and Romeo say their last goodbyes along with their vows. There is little to no revolution in the play.)

Episodes: 24
Genres: Action, Drama, Fantasy, Adventure, Romance
Characters:

Juliet (ジュリエット, Jurietto) Voiced by: Fumie Mizusawa (Japanese), Brina Palencia (English)Juliet Fiamatta Asto Capulet is the last member of the Capulet family. She masquerades as a boy, Odin, in order to avoid being caught by the usurping House of Montague, who still actively look for the Capulets. An excellent swordswoman, she also masquerades as a vigilante, the Red Whirlwind (赤い旋風, Akai Kaze?), in order to aid the people oppressed by the rival Montagues. She unwittingly falls in love with Romeo, which leads to several complications for her in the series. (Juliet in the Shakespearean version is almost forced into a marriage to Prince Escalus's relative Count Paris, not the other way around).

Romeo (ロミオ Romio) Voiced by: Takahiro Mizushima (Japanese), Chris Burnett (voice actor) (English)
Romeo Candolebonte Montague is the son of Lord Leontes Montague and Lady Portia and heir to the throne of Neo Verona. For political reasons, he has been forced into an unwanted engagement with Hermione, a young noblewoman. As a nobleman, he rides and owns a ryūba named Cielo whom he later freed. In contrast to his father, he is obedient and kindhearted, often disapproving of his family's tyranny. He is ostracized by the nobility save for his friend, Benvolio. He falls in love with Juliet at first sight. (In the Shakespearean version, Romeo falls in love with a local girl named Rosaline, and falls in love with Juliet at the Rose Ball during the masquerade.)

Lord Montague (モンタギュー Montagyū) Voiced by: Kōji Ishii (Japanese), Sean Hennigan (English)
Leontes Montague is the ruthless, Machiavellian Duke of Neo Verona. He, an illegitimate Capulet offspring and son of a prostitute, was born and raised into poverty. The death of his mother sparks his unrelenting and ferocious grudge against the Capulet name and his ambitions for being Duke. He acts coldly to all around him, only seeming to care about the Great Tree Escalus. He is killed late in the series by a mad Mercutio, moments before surrendering to Juliet.

Tybalt (ティボルト Tiboruto) Voiced by: Ryōtarō Okiayu (Japanese), Mike McFarland (English)
A mysterious warrior later revealed to be the illegitimate son of Leontes Montague. He wants vengeance for his mother, a Capulet woman, named Volumnia Capulet, used by Lord Montague. He eventually acts as the medium between Juliet and Romeo. His name is an obvious reference to the character of the original play, though in the Shakespeare version, he is Juliet's cousin. Still in the show Tybalt is Juliet's cousin which you can only find out by focusing. Considering who his father is Tybalt would also be Romeo's half brother.

Bleach

bleach Pictures, Images and Photos

Plot

The story opens with the sudden appearance of one of the Soul Reapers (死神, shinigami?, lit. "death god"), a military order who escorts the souls of the dead, named Rukia Kuchiki in teenager Ichigo Kurosaki's bedroom. She is surprised at his ability to see her, but their conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a "hollow", an evil spirit who was originally a human soul. After Rukia is severely wounded while trying to protect Ichigo, she attempts to transfer half of her reiatsu (霊圧?, lit. "spirit pressure") to Ichigo in order to let him face the hollow on equal footing. Ichigo unintentionally absorbs almost all her energy, allowing him to defeat the hollow with ease. The next day Rukia appears in Ichigo's classroom as a seemingly normal human, and informs Ichigo that his absorption of her powers has left her stranded in the human world until she recovers her strength. In the meantime Ichigo shelters Rukia in his home and takes over her job as a Soul Reaper, battling hollows and guiding lost souls to the afterlife realm known as Soul Society (尸魂界(ソウル·ソサエティ), Sōru Sosaeti?). After a few months of this arrangement, in the sixth volume of the series, Rukia's Soul Reaper superiors find out about her giving her powers away (which is illegal in Soul Society) and send a detachment to arrest her, and sentence her to death. Ichigo is unable to stop Rukia's capture, but with the help of several of his classmates who also possess spiritual abilities and ex-Soul Reaper Captain Kisuke Urahara, he sets off for the Soul Reaper base, located in Soul Society. Once there, Ichigo and company battle against the elites of the Soul Reaper military, and are ultimately successful in halting Rukia's execution. It is then revealed that Rukia's execution and Ichigo's rescue attempt were both manipulated by Sōsuke Aizen, a high ranking Soul Reaper previously believed to be murdered, as part of a far-reaching plot to take control of Soul Society. Aizen betrays his fellow Soul Reapers and allies himself with the strongest hollows, arrancar, becoming the main antagonist of the series, and Ichigo teams up with his former enemies in Soul Society after learning that the next step in Aizen's plan involves the destruction of his hometown. However, Ichigo goes with a few friends to the Hollow's world, Hueco Mundo (虚圏(ウェコムンド), Weko Mundo?), in order to rescue their friend Orihime Inoue who was kidnapped by Aizen in order to reduce the number of Soul Reapers defending Soul Society. At this point, Bleach chronicles the war between Aizen and the Soul Society, a plotline which has not yet been resolved. According to Tite Kubo, the ending of the series is not yet planned out or written.

Onegai Twins

Onegai Twins Pictures, Images and Photos

Plot

Please Twins! is a story mainly revolving around three high school students: Maiku Kamishiro, Karen Onodera, and Miina Miyafuji. The three were drawn together by a photograph of their childhood home which later makes all of them seek out the house in the picture. However, the picture only has two children - a boy and a girl. Hence, only one of the girls, Karen or Miina, is related to Maiku. The only other identifying feature of the pair in the picture is that the boy and the girl have eyes of the same unusual color; a feature that furthers the ambiguity as all three of them have the same eye color.

The main concern of the male lead, Maiku, is that he is in love with both of the girls, and he does not know which one is his twin. In addition, the two girls are in love with Maiku, forming a love triangle that can't be resolved until the truth of their relationship is known. The three main characters, mostly the two female leads, are in a predicament of wanting to discover their past versus the risk of losing a romantic relationship.

Synopsis:

Please Teacher! is a story mainly revolving around a tight-knit group of friends in high school and how they cope with several life-changing events that are never too far off from intimate relationships. The main character is a boy named Kei Kusanagi who suffers from a very rare disease which causes a comatose state referred to as a "standstill" whenever he is under severe emotional distress. Before the beginning of the story, Kei, at 15 years old, had fallen into a "standstill" lasting three years after witnessing the suicide of his elder sister. After recovering, he quietly moved away from home in order to avoid social difficulty due to his long absence, and began living with his uncle, a medical doctor, and aunt. Due to the strange nature of how he came to live there, Kei wanted to keep the situation a secret from his new friends for fear of being ostracized as being too old to associate with them.

Tenjho Tenge

Tenjho Tenge Pictures, Images and Photos

Plot

The plot begins with Souichiro Nagi and his friend Bob Makihara going to their first day of high school at Todo Academy. They had intended to rule the school by beating up anybody that got in their way, as they had done at their previous schools. They soon learn that Todo is no ordinary high school with ordinary students, but is a school that was founded to teach and integrate different fighting styles. Its students are skilled in the various arts of combat with some students possessing supernatural abilities, such as pyrokinesis, precognition, and superhuman strength based on the abilities to use their "spirit" or "ki" in Japanese. After an altercation with the Executive Council, Souichiro and Bob join the only surviving club that opposes them, the Juken club. As the storyline develops, both groups find they are becoming increasingly involved in a long enduring conflict that was left unresolved from the Japanese Feudal era by some of the characters' ancestors. Tenjho Tenge is an organizational story that uses a character-driven plot. The story uses a dramatic structure in the form of story arcs, which is common for this medium. Oh! great often employs the literary techniques of flashback and back-story for long stretches of the storyline. These techniques are used to enforce the notion of determinism, which is used throughout the story. Much of the combat used in Tenjho Tenge encompasses many philosophical and strategic concepts that is used in Japanese martial arts, such as kiai, aiki, and maai. Both the manga and the anime follow the same storyline, though there are differences. One of these differences is that both the CMX manga and the anime toned down the sexual content and profanity of the original Japanese manga. Another disparity is that the hair color of some of the characters in the anime does not match their hair color depicted on the colored covers of the manga.

Alice Academy [ Gakuen Alice]

alice academy Pictures, Images and Photos

Plot

Best friends Mikan and Hotaru grew up in a small town in the remote countryside. When Hotaru moves to a school for geniuses in Tokyo, Mikan misses Hotaru so badly that she decides to travel to Tokyo herself to find Hotaru. She finds Hotaru in a school called "Alice Academy," and finds that the school is actually for people with special powers called "Alices." Narumi-sensei, a teacher at the school, discovers that Mikan also happens to have an Alice, and Mikan is admitted into the academy. There she finds friends, love, and a life that she will never forget.

Differences between manga and anime

The anime episodes are similar to the corresponding manga chapters, but some events are changed or combined. The manga's darker tones are reduced in the anime to suit younger viewers. Characters in the anime may have different hair and eye color than their manga counterparts. The anime series leaves the love triangle between Mikan, Ruka, and Natsume unresolved, with Mikan having not realized their feelings for her, and the mystery of Mikan's parents remains unrevealed. In the first episode, she doesn't catch a taxi to Gakuen Alice, nor does everyone know about Alices in the anime. Many of these differences may be due to the fact that the anime has had only one season, while the manga is ongoing.
